Traditionally buns had a cross on to ward off evil spirits and in the late 1600s, (after the English Civil War) only bread, cakes and buns made on Good Friday continued to bear a cross. Magazine shoot takes Westcountry food photographer Guy Harrop to a beautiful delicatessen cafe nestled in the heart of Appledore, Devon UK

Johns of Appledore deli cafe is great. Local cheeses and meats, produce bulging off the shelves, overflowing baguettes at lunchtime and great friendly service. Food photographer Guy Harrop was recently there shooting a cafe feature for a magazine and yes, if you are passing Bideford and need a good sandwich, cake and coffee….make a detour - a lot of photographers do!!
